READING WORKSHOP

  • A framework for reading instruction and practice in the classroom
  • 45-60 minutes of instruction that follows a predictable format
  • Lessons focus on comprehension skills and critical thinking strategies
  • Students are given time and choice in order to develop a love for reading
  • Teachers differentiate instruction through small group and individual conferences
 

HOW TO HELP AT HOME

  • Refer to your child as a reader
  • Praise your child for their reading efforts
  • Read with your child as often as possible 
  • Sign up for a library card and visit often

WRITING WORKSHOP
  • A framework for writing instruction and practice in the classroom
  • 45-60 minutes of instruction that follows a predictable format
  • Lessons focus on procedures, organization, strategies, skills, craft, and structure
  • Students write daily about a topic of their choice
  • Teachers differentiate instruction through small group and individual conferences
 

HOW TO HELP AT HOME

  • Refer to your child as an author
  • Praise your child for their writing efforts
  • Everyone has a story to tell-encourage your author to write at home
