VISION

The Reach for the Stars Program will produce responsible citizens who have the 21st century skills they will need to become successful in college, career and life.

MISSION

Whittier City School District and the Community of Whittier believe that our children are our future. We have formed a partnership to provide Community Learning Centers at local schools that provide a safe and nurturing environment for students and community members to learn and grow.  We will integrate our resources in an effort to strengthen our community, increase academic achievement and decrease crime and violence for Whittier City youth and their families.

Reach for the Stars is funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant, the After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program Grant and the David & Lucille Packard Foundation.  The state/federal grants require that your child attend everyday until 6PM.  We operate all school days at all (9) elementary schools and (2) middle schools.

Your child must be registered at one of the WCSD schools first, then you may fill out an application from the school office.  Students are enrolled on a first come, first serve basis.  There is an annual registration fee.

The grants require that we have (1) hour of physical activity, (1) hour of homework help & (1) hour of enrichment daily.  We also provide a healthy snack and supper daily.

PROGRAMMING

Our after school program consists of daily sports & recreation time, help with homework and fun enrichment activities.  We offer: Choir, Dance, Band, Kidz Lit, Kidz Math, Mango Math, STEM (Science), Sports and Recreation, Cooking & Nutrition and more.

We partner and collaborate with the Whittier City School District, YMCA of Greater Whittier, ICES, the City of Whittier and many more.
